It's creepy

Does this look normal?

If you have a daughter would you do this to her?

The first time I became aware of these Child Beauty Pageants was back when JonBenet Ramsey's unfortunate death made headlines. I never knew they existed. Back then the girls looked too grown up for my liking.

Is it my imagination, or have things changed since then? I was watching an episode of Toddlers & Tiaras and was surprised to learn that the mothers often purchase fake teeth and wigs for their daughters on top of all the make-up and costumes. Fake teeth! A wig! Why can't a girl look like a girl? Why not normal dresses that are age appropriate and real hair?

What kind of a message does this give these poor girls who are competing and those who watch this show? I would be interested in talking to the parents who enter their daughters in these competitions!

I can see a whole slew of image problems stemming from shows like this. What are your views? I'm curious.

All the best,

It's the mothers. They are mentally sick.

I think it's way too creepy. I watched one episode of that and wanted to throw up :( I feel so sorry for the children.

So creepy!

Little girls are so precious too. I don't even want to think what stuff they'll be telling their therapists.

interestingly enough, I know a little girl who has been on the show Toddlers and Tiara's . She is a sweet, but serious little girl. Her mother is a Southern Belle, true and proud. I think that pageants have a deep tradition in the south. Before I moved here I had never seen such a thing. But within a couple of months of moving to Oklahoma, I met a grandma and mom who would put the little toddler in pageants. They said the prize money was going to the college fund. But I wonder how much it really cost to do the pageant?
